Recording a Google Meet Without G Suite or Host Permission
Important Ethical and Legal Considerations
Always get explicit consent from all participants before recording a Google Meet session. Recording without permission can be unethical and, in many regions, legally problematic. Transparency is essential.

Method 1: Using Screen Recording Software (PC & Mac)
This method captures your screen and system audio, recording the Google Meet session.
Choose Screen Recording Software:
Windows: Xbox Game Bar (built-in, Win + G), OBS Studio (free), ShareX (free), Camtasia (paid), Bandicam (paid).
Mac: QuickTime Player (built-in), OBS Studio (free), ScreenFlow (paid), Camtasia (paid).
Configure Your Screen Recorder:
Select Recording Area: Choose the Google Meet window or full screen.
Audio Input: Ensure the recorder captures system audio (desktop or tab audio). If needed, include your microphone input.
Start and Stop Recording:
Begin recording before or at the start of the meeting.
Stop recording once the meeting ends.
Find your saved recording in the location specified in your recording software.
Method 2: Using Chrome Extensions for Screen Recording
Some Chrome extensions can record your browser window and system audio.
Examples:
Loom, Screencastify, Nimbus Capture, Awesome Screen Recorder. Search "screen recorder" in the Chrome Web Store.
How to Use a Chrome Extension:
Install and activate the extension from the Chrome toolbar.
Select the Google Meet tab and ensure "system audio" or "tab audio" is enabled.
Start recording, conduct your meeting, then stop and save the recording.
Considerations for Unofficial Recording Methods:
No Google Drive Storage: Recordings are saved locally, not in Google Drive.
Audio Setup Can Be Tricky: Ensure system audio recording is correctly configured.
Performance Impact: Screen recording can use significant system resources.
Quality May Vary: Unofficial methods may not match Google Meet’s built-in recording quality.
Ethical Reminder: Always inform participants before recording. Consent is key for ethical and legal reasons.
